                                                 DAY 1

On the first day we had the opportunity to have a first moment of reception, next a presentation about the course organizers. We then were clarified on the rules for the different encounters on the different days.

We watched a video of Mary Meals and felt the importance of the educational system on the lives of many children in Africa. Each one of us were grateful to contribute for a year of meals in many children's lives. It was proposed to be an interaction activity called "Bingo". We then got to ask questions to other members of the group and get to know each other. In the end one of us won a prize, selected aletory. After we learned about the Flandres school system, the many differences between the different parts of the country, historical and political differences. Based on the "hands-on approach" we built a duck, different from any one present and put the duck in our country of origin on the European map. We then watched and learned about specific differences in the school system and digital tools for education. It was followed by a virtual visit to the mystical Lamb, which was simply inspirational as was the painting. Finally we tried Edpuzzle with a video and quiz about the best beer in the world and Bookwidget with which we answered a quiz that allowed us to test out knowledge about Belgium. Thanks for the learning opportunity.

                                                DAY 2

Today we visit Melle school

Before we entered the school we made a short stop at the Huyghe brewery. No tasting but keep in mind the elephant when you drink a “Delerium”.

Brecht told us many historical things about the school. We had a short audience with the headmaster from the boarding school. After that he showed us different buildings (primary school, secondary school, boarding school, the impressive chapel, sports hall, swimming hall, different classrooms, the canteen, the football and rugby field and the little farm with goats and a pony. The school building was old but very impressive.
Thanks for visiting your school and how different school buildings are.

In the afternoon there was the steam part. “Mission to Mars” Aendrik showed us the Lego laboratory and taught us the basic programming skills on Lego EV3.

DAY 3

Today we arrived to Bruges. At the beginning we walked around the city and Aendrik told us a lot of things, it was very interesting. The first stop was a very nice surprise because it was Tamas birthdays and Aendrik cooked a delicious cake(really was cooked by his wife because he is not a master of cake, he is master of chocolate).

For two hours we discovered how beautiful Bruges is. We stopped the tour and we looked for something to eat, the Marketplace was perfect for it.

At 13.30 we had a special visit…..a Brewery!!! We listened to the man but our thoughts were in drinking a beer, a real good beer, we love you ZOT.

The next activity was also so funny and interesting as an app for teaching. We played Actionbound. It is an app for playing digitally interactive scavenger hunts to lead the learner on a path of discovery.

With this app we discovered a lot of curiosities of Bruges and  we learned that it is not the same Luikse wafel as Brusselse walfe. At the end we must eat both to decide which one is better, a very difficult decision😋.

We have to say that Maru and Carmen won the Actionbound, we only spent three hours🤪🤪.

It was a great day and we will use Actionbound with our students in Extremadura.

                                                DAY 4

Chocolate course!

Today at 9:00 a.m. we had a chocolate course at Sint-Paulus.
Making pralines from real belgian chocolate from scratch was a new and exciting experience for all of us.
We had to demonstrate patience, precision and had the opportunity to be creative with making the filling.
Some of us took more traditional tastes, but there were also original and innovative kinds of combinations.
We learned the most important things when working with chocolate, such as: keep it away from water, keep everything clean all the time, and do not contaminate the chocolate. Also, Aendrik, our chocolate mentor, showed us the four steps of making a perfect praline: the shell, a filling, the bottom and waiting time. We would like to add the final step - enjoying the pralines in even better company. Why are all those things important we saw at the end, because all of our pralines looked and tasted great!
Congratulations to Carmen and Maru for the best praline of the day!
Also today we got our certificates of attendance.
Thank You, Aendrik!

                                            DAY 5

Visiting Brussels

We have finished the week visiting the city of Brussels. At 13:30 we started a pleasant walk through the city. We have discovered figures as famous as the Manneken Pis and its corresponding female version. We have also enjoyed the grandeur and solemnity of the Grand Place and we have been able to see the exterior of a small royal palace. Finally, we have learned a little more about European history in the EU Museum.
It has been a great experience and a pleasure to have met you!
See you soon! 😘
